Final word: Looking back, I’m a little scared about the running back position. It is going to be a big omen for CJ to be able to carry the ball this much. Maybe I should have drafted a back earlier or kept Fred. But, I just think we needed to save the money and use the extra pick to acquire Osi. Think about it, would you trade Osi for Fred straight up? I think I would.
I think this is the sort of offense Gailey wants. He loves running those 4 WR sets and I think this unit will cause Fitz (Pun intended). Speaking of Fitz, this offense is being built around him. There are no more excuses for him this year. He’s got weapons. He’s not throwing balls to street free agents. If you put together the best career years for Johnson-Robinson-Nelson-Smith, you have 297 catches for 33 touchdowns. That’s a lot of firepower potentially. I think Robinson and his 16 yards a catch can definitely stretch the field for the offense. Also, don’t underestimate Stevie’s speed and if Steve Smith is healthy, look out.
Defensively, it is all about the front four. Those four guys are going to dictate where the Bills finish defensively. They were my biggest goal for the offseason. The Bills pass rush last year was a fricken disaster. I think these guys will be able to get after the QB. It all starts with them. If they falter, the defense goes down the drain. I think they will be able to make our linebackers and secondary better than what they were last year. It is cliche, but it all starts up front.
I also think I did a decent job in preparing for the possible departures of Byrd and Levitre. As for next year, I think the Bills will probably be like 6-8 million under the cap. They could clear some space if David steps up (Say goodbye to Barnett or Morrison). Plus, D. Bell and Steve Smith would free up 6 million bucks if they leave. It is not a lot, but they probably would be able to afford to keep either Levitre or Byrd, not both. Anyways, that’s in 2013.
As for 2012, I think my team can win 10 games this year. I think it all rests on the defensive line and how Fitzpatrick rebounds from his heaven/hell season. Yes, I see playoffs. In fact, I guarantee it!
